Hotel Poggio Del Sole is located in Forio, the second largest town on the island of Ischia. The hotel is situated on a green hillside overlooking two of Ischia's most spectacular beaches, Punto Caruso and Punto Impertore. Further up the hillside looms the extraordinary Mt.
Epomeo, the highest point on the island. Hotel Poggio del Sole's position allows for astonishing views of both land and sea, as well as an unparalelled point for watching sunsets over the churches of Forio and the Mediterranean.
Even though the hotel is high enough up to have an excellent view, it is also surprisingly close to the buzzing town of Forio. For this reason, the hotel's position offers the best of both worlds. Because the hotel is centrally located, you will find many activities, if not within walking distance, then just a short bus ride away. These activities include sight-seeing, shopping, grocery stores, restaurants, scooter/bike/car/boat rentals, sunbathing, beaches, swimming, and spas.

HOW TO REACH HOTEL POGGIO DEL SOLE
To get to the island of Ischia, you will need to take a boat from the "Molo Beverello" port in Naples. From Naples' central train station ("stazione centrale"), it is easiest to take a taxi (bargain or ask for the fixed price, "prezzo fisso") in order to reach the port, especially if you have lots of luggage. (Note: It is possible, though not as easy nor necessarily advisable, to reach the port of Beverello by public bus. To do so, exit from the front of Naples' Central Station and walk straight, past all of the waiting busses until you reach the major street. Carefully cross to the other side of the street, and you will see a bus stop just to the left. Look for tram #1, and ask for the port "porto" or Beverello.)
At the port: Both ferries and fast boats depart for Ischia about every hour, from 6AM until 10PM. Tickets may be purchased as one-way or round-trip, and there is a small extra charge for luggage. Purchase your ticket at the ticket counter at the port, as you will not be allowed on the boat without a ticket. Fast boats (catamarans) cost approximately twice as much as ferries, and arrive in half the time (around 50 minutes). To give you an idea, in 2006, a one-way ferry ride to Ischia cost about 7 Euro and arrived in 1 hour, 30 minutes.
*** TWO IMPORTANT TIPS ABOUT TAKING THE BOAT TO ISCHIA:
1. It is important to remember that there are no boats to Ischia after 10PM each night. Boats leave promptly, so please plan accordingly by aiming for the earliest boat you can. It is also unwise for tourists to linger at the port of Naples at night, so try to get out of there and on an early boat to paradise.
2. Some boats make an unannounced (or only announced in Italian) stop at the island of Procida before reaching Ischia. Pay attention, and DO NOT GET OFF IN PROCIDA! Wrong island! Ask the boat's staff if the boat stops in Procida, and makesure than when you do get off the boat, you get off at the island of Ischia.***
The island of Ischia has 3 ports: Ischia (the main port, synonymous with the name of the island as a whole), Casamicciola and Forio (the port closest to the Hotel Pogio del Sole). It is most convenient to try to get a ticket for a boat that goes to the port of Forio. Once at the port of Forio, the hotel staff can come pick you up (call ahead!) and drive you to the hotel (about 5 minutes). So it is best to try to get a ticket for a boat that goes to Forio.
If, however, you cannot get a boat to the port of Forio, don't despair. From both the port of Ischia and the port of Casamicciola it is possible to reach the Hotel Poggio del Sole by bus. If you get off at either the port of Ischia or Casamicciola, simply look for the orange local buses. You want to get on a bus that says on the front either "1" or "CS". Both of these buses will bring you to the town of Forio (about 20-30 minutes), where hotel staff can pick you up. Be sure to call the hotel staff so that we know when you will arrive, and then we will happily assist you.
